Sunday night - I was lying on the bed reading a magazine and Andy was busy at his computer. It was raining heavily outside. I decided to get off the bed to do something and found myself stepping into ankle-high water. Had the rain come in from the window? Had we left the bathroom taps on? Andy had his feet on the foot rest of the table and he too had not realised the room was flooded. We had not yet finished unpacking our bags and putting things away, and they were all over the floor. Quickly we rushed round dragging things onto the bed, the table and the chairs. By now there was a lot of commotion outside our door. The water was flowing along the corridor and into other rooms too. The maids and the guards were rushing around with sandbags, buckets, mops, cloths, etc - trying to stop more water coming in and mopping up what was there. We found out later that the flood was caused by a blocked drain. We were exhausted after all the excitement and were thankful to crawl into bed around midnight. |
